Gadwal, a small town on the banks of the river Krishna, is part of this sacred land. Gadwal is popularly known as “VIDWAD GADWAL”, as the rulers of Gadwal Samsthan had a great reputation for men of letters, poets and scholars of Sanskrit and Telugu from far and wide places including Tamilnadu regularly visited the Gadwal Samsthan in those days. Gadwal, well connected by rail and road on the Hyderabad-Bangalore route, is situated 200 kms away from Hyderabad enrouteto Bangalore. Gadwal has a railway station and many trains in this route connect Gadwal to many important places across India including Delhi, Jaipur, Thirupathi, Bangalore, Mysore etc. It is 15 kms away from National Highway No.7 and is connected at Erravalli Chaurastha. It is surrounded by 4 important towns on 4 sides, Mahaboobnagar on the North, Wanaparthy on the East, Kurnool on the South and Raichur of Karnataka on the West. Gadwal was in fact a part of Raichur district before the reorganization of the district of erstwhile Hyderabad state in 1956.
