About College

Since pre-independence period, the Amreli region had remained outstanding in the sphere of the education. Late Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gayakwad, a great social reformer and educationist made the free and compulsory education at primary level. When education facility was less excluding certain considerable states in the region, Amreli remained outstanding in imparting education not only to male students but female students too. Amreli being the chief city of the district, Government schools had to be opened for education. Private schools also had to be started. Several communities built up “Chhatralayas” in Amreli so that their children could get education staying at concerned community “Chhatralaya”. At the surrounding area of Amreli, High Schools have been flourished in full fledged so that the S.S.C. Board has sanctioned the The S.S.C. Examination centre to Amreli. But there was not a single institute for higher education near by 75 miles of surrounding area of Amreli. So the student of surrounding area either goes to out quite a distant place or to leave their study. Though the Amreli had adequate number of students there was no facility for higher education. It was always struck to the well wishers of Amreli to have such an institute that may impart the eclectic development of the entire Amreli region. Keeping in mind with noble gesture, the Amreli Jilla Vidhyasabha as a registered trust and society came in to existence under the presidentship, The First Chief Minister of Gujarat Dr. Jivraj N. Mehta with the objectives of promoting higher education in this region. The trust has an academic campus of 105 acres of land. Prataprai Arts College was established in 1961 with 110 students. It imparts degree level courses like, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Economics, Psychology and Political Science. Kamani Science College was established in 1962 with 90 students. It imparts degree level courses like, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Computer Applications (Vocational). The college has two P.G. courses like, Hindi and Sanskrit. The cathment area of the college is the entire Amreli district and neighbuoring sub division of other districts. The Gujarat Government policy of free education for women at all levels, has increased female number considerably during every year, which has caused breaking point pressure on existing infrastructure of campus and academic facilities.
