In pursuance of the No Objection Certificate issued by the govt. of Asian nation, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, vide their U.O. No. 12013/31-90ME(P) dated 15-01-91 Government Medical College was started in 1991 with the following broad objectives: To fulfill the evident deficiency of associate college boy Medical College within the Union Territory of Chandigarh that offers the simplest instructional facilities altogether alternative fields. the govt. Medical College is connected to a teaching hospital. To act as a middle for continued Medical Education Programmes for numerous classes of technical and non-technical personnel of various disciplines operating at intervals and from alternative institutions/hospitals. To render facilities for conducting analysis activities concerning completely different specialties, as and once needed The foundation stone birthing ceremony was performed by the previous Hon’ble Prime Minister of Asian nation, Shri Chandra Shekhar on twenty Jan, 1991 in Sector thirty-two on the quilt of thirty-six.09 acre of land assigned by the Chandigarh Administration. Construction for this faculty and Hospital started in 1991 itself. within the meanwhile Government Medical College started working from Prayaas building, Sector 38, Chandigarh with General Hospital, Sector sixteen as associate connected teaching hospital.
