Government Medical College, Jammu (GMC) was established in the year 1973 to provide the medical education and health service to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This institution was initiated with the sole purpose to train fifty MBBS students annually & to serve as referral for Jammu hospital. Presently, the seating volume has been rise up to 150 students annually. Besides MBBS course the college also imparts Post-graduate training Course.Opportunities are created for the students to develop their talent in various fields of art and culture viz., Music, Dramatics, Literature, Debates and Sports etc. The students are encouraged to undertake social activities. The college has an animal house with 40-50 animals in college building for the practice of students of PG's & UG's. The college offers M.B.B.S. and Post-Graduate training courses. Over the years, GMC, Jammu has increased its intake and made rapid changes to improve medical education. The college is associated with hospital including Sir. Col. R.N.Chopra Nursing Home, Medical College Hospital, CD Hospital, SMGS Hospital etc. The Institute has upheld the healthy tradition of maintaining the intellectual as well as the physical fitness of the Students.The college has the facility of separate hostels for Under-graduates and Post-graduates for both girls and boys seperately.
