Shyam Lal College (SLC) was founded by Shyam Lal Gupta, a great entrepreneur and visionary, in 1964. It is one of DU's most prominent constituent colleges. The co-educational college has a 29,501-sq m campus situated in Shahdara, Delhi and consists of 11 academic departments. It offers nine undergraduate, one postgraduate and two new honours programmes. Also, the institution is home to five distinct centres including Centre for Holistic Development (CHD), Ambedkar Study Circle (ASC), Women Development Cell (WDC), Centre for Industry Interaction and Skill Development (CIISD) and Gandhi Study Circle (GSC). Shyam Lal College was founded by Shyam Lal Gupta in 1964 with the financial assistance of the Chairman Shyam lal Charitable Trust. The foundation stone of college was laid by Zakir Hussain, the then the Vice President of India and Chancellor of the University of Delhi, on 24 May 1964.[citation needed] The evening College began operating on 8 September 1969.[citation needed] The college is one of full-fledged constituent colleges of University of Delhi, offering courses in science, commerce and humanities to more than 1800 students. The college is housed in its own building at G.T. Road,Shahadra, near Welcome metro station.
