Hunsur is a town in Mysore district in Karnataka. It is located on 12°19’N - 76°17’E. The river Lakshmana Thirtha flow through the middle of this town and it is the administrative (Taluk) centre of Hunsur Taluk. Historically this town used to be called ‘Gaadi-palya’ meaning ‘a-resting station for bullock carts’. It is 45 kilometres away from Mysore. It is located on the State Highway of Mysore to Mangalore. The former Chief Minister of Karnataka State Sri D. Devaraj Urs established the Government First Grade College in the year 1971. Formerly it was known as Municipal First Grade College Hunsur. It was taken over by the Government of Karnataka in the year 1990. It is registered by UGC under section 12(B)2F of the University Grants Commission Act 1956.
