About College

In the light of the growing need for higher education in Bhojpur district, Jagjivan, College, Aara was established on October 8, 1959 after the great honor of Babu Jagjivan Ram. After being born in a scheduled caste family of Chandwa (Aara) on April 5, 1908, after being influenced by the late Babu Jagjivan Ram in India, Shri Gangan Singh, the then Education Minister of Bihar, announced the establishment of this college. The college went on a steady progress with the relentless effort of Shri Ramanaresh Singh as the first Secretary of the College, Shri Mahadevanand Giri and the first in-charge Principal. Due to the unwavering affection and grace of the relentless efforts of the educationists of Bhojpur district and the Padmabhushan, Dr Sajan Ram, the association was obtained from the University in 1960. On February 11, 1965, the foundation stone of the college-building was done by the late Chief Minister, Honorable Krishna Vellha Sahay, in the Chandwa Ara. It is a great privilege of college that Babu Jagjivan Ram has been receiving immense affection, protection and blessings from the beginning. He provided all kind of support for the building of the college - construction and development. In order to fulfill the lack of private house of the college, he donated 5.43 acres of land in his native land Chandwa. His son Mrs. Meira Kumar, Honorable President, (Lok Sabha) is also providing full cooperation and affection in the continuous development of the college. Presently, the College is a unique unit of the Veer Kunwar Singh University, which was duly switched on July 8, 1977. The college is located in the canopy next to the police line in north west of Aara Railway Station and Railway Overbridge (Western Ghumti). Distance from college to Aara railway station is 3 km. In addition to +2 intermediate and undergraduate degree courses in art and science faculties in college, facility of free teaching of remedial coaching is also available.
