About College

Education of women especially rural women, his holiness believed is the key to the development of our nation. Keeping in mind the conservative mindset of the average Indian middle class and also to target education specifically at girls, his holiness bifurcated Sree Siddaganga Arts, Science & Commerce College; a co-education institution into Siddaganga Boys College, and womens college in 1982. The government approved the bifurcation and sanctioned the college vide order no. ED 66/WPC-81, BANGALORE DATED 13/08/1982. The college was affiliated to Bangalore University, Bangalore. In the very first year, the composite college had 213 girl students in Pre-University courses and 218 in the Undergraduate Courses. The Karnataka Government revamped the education system by delinking the Pre-University courses from Undergraduate Courses in 2001. Recognizing the growing population and the potential for academic growth and excellence in the Tumkur region, the government of Karnataka established the Tumkur University in 2004. Since then the College has been affiliated to the Tumkur University, Tumkur and is the only UG College in the entire university to get accredited by NAAC with a B++ grade. Sri Siddaganga Womens College is located in the heart of the city close to the City Railway Station and Bus Stand making it easy for the girls to commute from neighboring taluks and villages too.
