History of The Institution It was in 1964 that the Managing Trust of the E.M.H.S. Trust, now known as Shri J.D.K.Patel Davolwala Education Trust, Borsad started a college having two faculties – Arts and Commerce with the generous donations from Mr. Ambalal Mahijibhai Patel and Mr. Javerbhai Bhulabahi Patel of Rudel village of Borsad taluka. The college was named after the two donors and thus it came to be known as Shri Javerbhai Bhulabhai Patel Rudelwala Arts & Shri Ambalal Mahijibhai Patel Rudelwala Commerce College. In the Year 1966, Science College was also started. The Science College received its recognization by the UGC under section 2(f) in the year 1977. Again all the three faculties Arts, Commerce & Science together under the new name Patel J. B. Rudelwala Arts, Patel A. M. Rudelwala Commerce & Science College, Borsad got the recognization of the UGC under section 2(f) in the year 1980.The college got the recognization from UGC under section 12-A in the year 1981. The college is affiliated to the Gujarat University. However; In the year 1988, Mr. Jayantibhai Dahyabhai bin Kalidas Patel of Davol village of Borsad taluka, an NRI in the Motel business in the USA and also an alumnus of the college, generously donated for the new building of the college. The Borsad Science College was thus named after the donor and now it has come to be known as Shri Jayantibhai Dahyabhai bin Kalidas Patel Science College. It is a multi-faculty college, the only one of its kind in the whole of the Borsad taluka. The institution has its roots deep in the social & political history of the taluka. It has contributed a lot in the betterment and upliftment of the people in and around Borsad. It has become the seat of learning for the people belonging to the interior rural areas of the Borsad taluka. Thus, in this fast growing age, it has proved to be a boon for the common mass of the taluka. The institution has always made an upward march on the path of progress and has surpassed numerous summits of success. The institution has always kept pace with the changing age and has tried to cater to the needs of the times. It was in the year 1998-99 the college started Functional (Communicative) English as the first subsidiary subject in the Arts Faculty and a Language Laboratory was established with the financial assistance of the U.G.C. In the year 2006-07 a post graduation programme, M.A. in Gujarati, was introduced. Looking to the special needs of the times, three Career Oriented Programmes (COP) , namely Translation Proficiency, Fashion Designing and Tourism were introduced in the year 2007-08. It is again for the benefit of the society only that a Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University Programme Centre was started in the year 2006-07. The vertically linear motion of the institution in the sky of progress in itself is the proof of the institute’s responsibility and commitment towards social reformation and social regeneration. The institution has made a mark so far as co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are concerned. Youth Festivals, the biggest annual university level cultural event, were hosted twice so far by the college, first in 2001, Late Shri S.S.Bhandari, the Governor of Gujarat State graced the occasion for the first time in the history of any college, and second time in 2005. The institution has left its footprints in the form of milestones in sports. The college won the championship title consecutively four times from 2002-03 to 2005-06 at Gujarat University South Zone Inter College Volley- ball Women Tournament. The institution has excelled in the academic results too. Year by year remarkable increase in the pass-out percentage has been noted. There are students who have topped the university list of rankers. The institution has been striving hard to give the best education to the students belonging to the rural areas of the Borsad taluka and thereby contributing its share in moulding dynamic modern India. Now, From the year 2016-17 the college is affilliated to Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidhyanagar as per Government & University notofications
