Kittel College, established in 1968, is one of the prestigious educational institutions in North Karnataka fulfilling the needs of the public in the field of education. Kittel College, which functioned as a single unit from 1968 to 1988, was bifurcated in 1988 into Kittel Science College and Kittel Arts College,. Kittel Science College, with 35 years of history, celebrated its Silver Jubilee with great enthusiasm in 1993. Kittel Science College is permanently affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad. The College is centrally located and is within easy reach from any part of the city. Mr. R.S.Bangera, who is hailed, as the architect of modern Basel Mission was a visionary. He was very much instrumental in starting many educational institutions under the umbrella of Basel Mission Higher Education Centre. A team of dedicated teachers like Mr. C.G.Ammanna, Mr. C.J.Sakkari, Mr. C.J.Ezra, Mr. P.Prakash, Mr. B.A. Bhasme and Mr. S.C.Gokavi always supported Mr. R.S.Bangera. They initiated the proposal for the establishment of a College to cater to the needs of higher education in the city of Dharwad. Thus Kittel College emerged as the Diocesan College of the then Mysore Northern Diocese of the Church of South India on 15th June 1968. The College is named after Dr. Ferdinand Kittel, a particularly iin Dharwad from 1883-84 as a missionary and as Principal of Basel Mission High School.
