This college was established on 10th September 1979 at old Shankar college Building, Yadgir to fulfill aspirations of poor students belonging to backward area Hyderabad –Karnataka region in general, SC/ST and backward communities in particular. It is one of the premier institutions of Hyderabad –Karnataka region, providing undergraduate studies with co-education facility in Arts, Commerce, Science, Buisness Management, Computer Application and MA in Kannada, History, Political Science, Economics, M.S.W. and M.Sc in Computer Science,Physics & Mathematics. This college is functioning now in its own building, which is situated at yadgir-Chittapur Road. This college being located at convenient place and well connected to the city and villages. Students can come to the college easily. The college is affiliated to Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi and provides Degree Courses of Arts, Commerce, Science,Buisness Management and Computer Application, Master Degree Courses in Economics,History,Kannada,Political Science, Computer Science,Physics,Mathematics, commerce and Social Work.
