About College

The famous Somnath Trust of Shree Somnath Temple established Shree Somnath college in 1960 at Veraval, a costal area. The college is situated on sea shore. The aim of the institution was to provide higher education to the people of veraval and its adjoining rural areas. In 1967, the college was transferred to the local trust, Somnath Education Society. Till 1991-92, this college was known as Shree Somnath College, there-after known as Smt. C.P.Choksi Arts and Shri P.L. Choksi Commerce College. At the outset, Sanskrit and economics were started as special subjects at B.A. level. In 1962, the college had taken up commerce education to cope up with the development of business and industry around the area. In 1981, the college started Sociology as a special subject at B.A. level. P.G. Classes for arts and commerce students were started in the year 2001-02 but had to close down later. The college also runs IGNOU courses. The College offers only two programmes at the undergraduate level B.A. and B.Com. The college is affiliated to Saurashtra University, Rajkot. It is covered under grant-in-aid scheme of the State Govt. ofGujarat. It has also been recognized by the University Grants Commission under 2(f) & 12(b) since 1960. Though, the college is located in urban area students of adjoining rural area seek admission in the college. The college campus is spread over 10,000/ sq. meters.
